Worms love them and they're great for your garden. I used vanilla for another trick... when you're selling a home, you can put a little bit of vanilla on a piece of tin foil in a mini pie dish, or make a form of tin foil and put it into your oven. Before you have an open house, or a showing, heat up the oven and the smell of fresh baked 'something' will permeate the house.
